Ponte Vecchio is the old bridge in Florence that crosses the Arno River. Built in the Middle Ages, it is one of the only bridges that the Germans didn't destroy on their retreat out of Florence during the Second World War. Since the 16th century, it has always been home to goldsmiths' and jewellers' shops, and this is still the case today.
