Quote, Charles Bukowski

“For those who believe in God, most of the big questions are answered. But for those of us who can't readily accept the God formula, the big answers don't remain stone-written. We adjust to new conditions and discoveries. We are pliable. Love need not be a command nor faith a dictum. I am my own god. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.”

Ronnie's Sex Shop, Route 62, South Africa

Ronnie's Sex Shop is probably one of the most iconic stops on the Route 62. Irony being that this place actually has nothing to do with sex. Story goes that years ago, some clever vandal came along with a tin of red place, and used a bit of poetic licence to give the facade of this institution a little face lift, immortalising the building and its reputation. Ever since, Ronnie's has become an infamous Route 62 pit stop. The beers are cold and the people friendly as hell. Get on that.

Route 62, Western Cape, South Africa

I know this is true for a lot of us, but we're always so quick to jump in a place and get to out next destination. But hell, are we spoilt when it comes to the network of roads which we can drive in our pretty country. The Route 62 has become the iconic road that runs through the heart of South African fortified wine production, ostrich country, and landscapes that are begging to be put onto canvas. Skip the national highway next time, and wind your way along this old soldier...

Klip Hotel, Misgund, Eastern Cape

If you ever find yourself adventuring along the Route 62, you'll quickly notice that this is the epicentre of the classic South African "padstal". There is a lot of crock along the way, but the majestic Klip Hotel must surely be the cream of the crop... Totally worth pulling in for a cuppa and putting up the feet!

Food Blog, Our Seasonal Table

I really do love me a good food blog. I think the secret to a really cracking one are the images that accompany the words. This one that I stumbled upon ticks all the boxes...

Carpets, Essaouira, Morocco

sonder

n. the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own - populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness - an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you'll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra, sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk

dive for dreams by ee cummings

dive for dreams

dive for dreams
or a slogan may topple you
(trees are their roots
and wind is wind)
trust your heart
if the seas catch fire
(and live by love
though the stars walk backward)
honour the past
but welcome the future
(and dance your death
away at the wedding)
never mind a world
with its villains or heroes
(for good likes girls
and tomorrow and the earth)
in spite of everything
which breathers and moves, since Doom
(with white longest hands
neating each crease)
will smooth entirely our minds
-before leaving my room
i turn,and (stooping
through the morning) kiss
this pillow, dear
where our heads lived and were.

ee cummings

I've never read a lot of ee cummings in the past, but my little sister inspired me to pick up on his work. His writing is quite simply magnificent...

Euripides, The Cyclops

"If a man rejoice not in his drinking, he is mad; for in his drinking it's possible for this to stand up straight, and then to fondle breasts, and to caress well tended locks,
and there is dancing withal,
and the oblivion of woe."

-Euripides, The Cyclops

Re Stacks, Bon Iver

"There's a black crow sitting, across from me; his wiry legs are crossed.
And he's dangling my keys, he even fakes a toss.
Whatever could it be
That has bought me to this loss?"
